How I Prepare My Mind and Meals Before a Trip

with Mindfulness and Gratitude

I’m packing my bags this week—I’ll be heading to New York for a little getaway.

Now, I don’t know about you, but travel (even the exciting kind) used to throw me off completely when it came to eating. I’d either restrict beforehand, overeat while I was away, or come home feeling bloated, guilty, and like I needed a “reset.” Sound familiar?

Over the years, I’ve learned that what we eat before and during travel isn’t just about food—it’s about mindset. And now, I approach every trip, event, or special occasion with just a few simple intentions that make all the difference.

Here’s how I prepare:

1. I plan, but I don’t obsess.

I pack a few nourishing snacks (like fruit or nuts) and scope out a couple of restaurants or grocery spots near where I’ll be staying. It’s about having options, not rigid rules.

2. I honor my body, not a diet.

Some days while traveling, I’m hungrier. Other days, I eat less naturally. I let my body guide me instead of following a plan or punishing myself with guilt. I stay curious instead of critical.

3. I don’t eat to please others.

If I’m full, I allow myself to stay full—even if everyone else is diving into dessert. I’ve learned that I don’t need to participate just to be polite. Joy and connection can still happen without a bite of cake in hand.

4. I check in with my why.

When I travel, my goal isn’t perfection—it’s presence. I want to enjoy the people, the sights, the flavors. I breathe before I eat. I slow down. And I remember: connection and experience are part of nourishment too.

So as I head to NY this week, I’m not aiming to eat “perfectly.” I’m simply staying mindful, kind to myself, and flexible. That’s what makes it enjoyable—and sustainable.

And if you’ve got a trip or event coming up, here’s my gentle nudge: prepare your mindset as much as your meals. Your body (and your joy) will thank you.

Until next time,

With love and presence,

What if chronic illness wasn’t the end of your story—but the start of a deeper awakening

In this heartfelt episode of the Professional Women’s Wellness Podcast, I sit down with Cheryl Boon, a certified health coach who transformed her own life after being diagnosed with lupus and rheumatoid arthritis while raising three young kids.

Now, decades later, Cheryl’s not just surviving — she’s thriving.

She’s helping women over 45 do the same by getting to the real root causes behind chronic symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, autoimmune issues, and more.

Her message?

“Listen to your body when it whispers… so you don’t have to hear it scream.”

🌿 In this episode, we talk about:

Why symptoms like fatigue, joint pain, and brain fog are often messages — not mysteries

The truth about toxins: where they hide in your food, your home, and even your makeup

What most detox programs miss (and why you should never rush the process)

How detoxing your brain is different—and why your fillings and filtered water matter

Why healing isn’t about being perfect… it’s about making empowered choices over time

“Autoimmune is not a disease. It’s a symptom. And that means there’s hope.”

“We’re not broken. We’ve just been uninformed. Healing starts with awareness.”

“Your health journey isn’t about restriction—it’s about reclaiming joy.”

“I wanted to be the grandmother who could get down on the floor and play.”

Cheryl is giving away her eBook: “Detox Your Home, Heal Your Body” — a simple guide to swapping out toxic products and reclaiming wellness one small step at a time.
